Dr Joseph Ting

Adjunct Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the History Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hon. Professor of School of Chinese, the University of Hong Kong

Ting Sun Pao Joseph was born in Guangzhou. Graduated from University of Hong Kong with B.A. in 1974, followed by MPhil in 1979 and PhD in 1989. Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History from 1995 to 2007, during which he played a vital role in the planning and implementation of the new Hong Kong Museum of History premises, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defense and Hong Kong Sun Yat-sen Museum. He is currently Adjunct Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the History Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hon. Professor of School of Chinese, the University of Hong Kong, member of History subject Committee of History Department of Lingnan University and Polytechnic University, former member of Antiquities Advisory Board and Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee, Hon. Adviser of Hong Kong Museum of Art and Museum of History, trustee of The Lord Wilson Heritage Trust, Hon Fellow of the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Education, and Hong Kong Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society. Deputy Director of Hong Kong Local Records Project, Member of the LCSD Museums Advisory Committee, Member of the Hong Kong Palace Museum Board and Hon. Adviser or committee Member of a couple of local museums as well as Museums on the Mainland. Field of Research interest included: History of Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macau, History of Overseas Chinese Communities, Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Hong Kong, China Trade Paintings etc. Since retirement in 2007, he has published more than ten books of which two were granted Book Award of the Year. 29
